Pool Fencing
Safety-compliant pool fencing that protects your family while enhancing your backyard oasis.

Keeping Your Loved Ones Safe
A pool is one of the best features you can have in your backyard, but it comes with serious safety responsibilities. Pool fencing isn't just a good idea; it's required by California law and local building codes. More importantly, proper pool fencing can save lives by preventing accidental drownings, especially among young children.
Every year, tragic accidents happen when children gain unsupervised access to pools. A proper pool fence creates a physical barrier that keeps kids out when adults aren't watching. In Daly City, we take pool safety seriously, and our fencing solutions meet or exceed all state and local requirements.
Beyond safety, a well-designed pool fence enhances your outdoor space, defines your pool area, and adds value to your property. Our professional installation team helps you choose fencing that keeps your family safe while looking great with your pool and landscaping.
California Pool Fencing Requirements
Understanding pool fence regulations can be confusing, but we handle all the details to ensure your fence meets every requirement. Here are the key rules you need to know:
- Minimum Height: Pool fences must be at least 5 feet tall measured from grade. Most homeowners choose 5 or 6-foot heights for adequate protection.
- No Climbing Features: The fence design must not provide footholds or handholds that children could use to climb over. Horizontal rails on the pool side are not allowed.
- Proper Spacing: Vertical bars must be spaced no more than 4 inches apart to prevent children from squeezing through or getting trapped.
- Self-Closing, Self-Latching Gates: All gates must close and latch automatically. Latches must be positioned at least 54 inches from the ground so children can't reach them.
- Gate Swing Direction: Gates should swing away from the pool for safety. This prevents anyone from accidentally falling into the pool if the gate swings open.
- Complete Enclosure: The fence must completely surround the pool with no gaps larger than 4 inches between the ground and the bottom of the fence.
We stay current on all code requirements and work with local inspectors regularly. When we install your pool fence, you can be confident it will pass inspection the first time. We also help you understand maintenance requirements to keep your fence compliant over time.
Best Pool Fencing Materials
Not all fencing materials work equally well around pools. Here are your best options:
Aluminum Fencing
Our most popular choice for pools. Aluminum won't rust despite constant exposure to water and pool chemicals. It provides excellent visibility so you can always see the entire pool area. The elegant appearance complements pool designs beautifully. Available in many styles and colors. Learn more about our aluminum fence options.
Vinyl Fencing
Great for pools when you want more privacy. Vinyl won't rot, warp, or deteriorate from moisture. Easy to clean when splashed with pool water. Solid panels block views into your pool area from neighbors. Available in semi-privacy styles that allow some airflow. Check out our vinyl fencing solutions.
Glass Pool Fencing
Premium option that provides safety without blocking any views. Frameless or semi-frameless glass panels create a high-end resort feel. Perfect for properties with beautiful landscaping or views you don't want to obstruct. Requires more maintenance to keep glass clean and clear.
What We Don't Recommend
We generally advise against wood fencing around pools because constant moisture exposure leads to faster deterioration. Chain-link can work but doesn't complement pool aesthetics well. Wrought iron looks great but requires regular maintenance to prevent rust around water.
